ELEMENTARY AT EASTMONT

We are a Christian preschool and elementary school located in Bend, Oregon

Eastmont School exists to help our students form a Biblical worldview and grow in their identity in Christ to be equipped as leaders. We inspire students to reach their full potential in a safe Christian environment while challenging them academically.

KINDERGARTEN

We use the Holy Bible as our guide to nurture the growth of faith and the Fruit of the Spirit in your child. Our Bible lessons focus on Jesus as our Savior and emphasize that God loves and cares for us. We use the Core Knowledge Language Arts phonetic approach to teach reading and writing. We develop strong foundational math skills using enVision curricular materials. Each child learns healthy habits and to recognize emotions and feelings in themselves and others. Students learn a variety of topics in history, geography, and science. Pearson Learning Core Knowledge History & Geography guides our learning about the seven continents, our Mount Rushmore Presidents, the seven regional tribal nations (Native Americans) in the Continental United States, Christopher Columbus and Pilgrims. Students learn about the scientific method of observation, particularly focusing on these important scientists: Wilbur and Orville Wright, Jane Goodall, and George Washington Carver. Our kindergarten students spend one-half hour two times each week with our Spanish, music and physical education specialists. Field Trips will be included during the year.

1ST GRADE

Our 1st grade CKLA curriculum is full of exciting themes that will engage and challenge your child. We will dive into writing, language conventions, fiction and poetry. Each day for Bible time we will look at familiar Bible truths that emphasize God’s relationship to people. We will also explore world geography, and American colonies, and the early exploration of the American West. In science, we will learn about living things and their environments, the human body, electricity and so much more! Our math curriculum will focus on learning more about basic operations, number lines, measurement, and geometry. We will also spend time each month with our “Reading Buddies” in one of the older grades. We get to take advantage of our four “specials”: PE, art, music and Spanish. Field Trips will be included during the year, that will be determined based on our topics, plus some added just for fun!

2ND GRADE

We will walk through the Bible, learning about Abraham, Moses and Elijah. Kids will learn what it means to trust and follow God in all aspects of their lives. We will build on the reading skills they have been developing in Kindergarten and 1st grade. Students will read poetry, fables, biographies and chapter books. Students will write descriptions, letters, and persuasive pieces. They will turn their sentences into paragraphs and learn how to edit their work and give constructive feedback to others. In math, we will master our addition and subtraction facts. Students will expand upon that knowledge by adding and subtracting 2-digit and 3-digit numbers. We will learn more about money, measurement and time. Science will come alive as we study magnetism, seasonal cycles and simple machines. We will take field trips to expand our learning. In history, students will learn about Ancient Greece, westward expansion, the civil war and immigration. We love to balance fun and hard work, and we are excited to share our year with you!

Eastmont was the best school I’ve ever been to. I miss it so much!
