2nd Grade

Christian Elementary School | Second Grade Teacher’s Corner

Welcome to Eastmont School’s Second Grade Teacher’s Corner! Here is where you will find field trip photos of our students and updates from our teachers. Our small class sizes and Core Knowledge elementary school curriculum gives our students a strong academic and spiritual foundation.

Welcome to Mrs. Russell’s second grade class!

I have taught for 11 years and have been blessed to teach at Eastmont since 2011. Prior to coming to Eastmont, I taught in Palm Springs for 6 years and then “retired” to raise my girls for 6 years.  I am so happy to be teaching 2nd grade.  It is such a wonderful year of growth and development.

We will walk through the Bible, learning about Abraham, Moses and Elijah.  Kids will learn what it means to trust and follow God in all aspects of their lives.

We will build on the reading skills they have been developing in Kindergarten and 1st grade.  Students will read poetry, fables, biographies and chapter books. Students will write descriptions, letters, and persuasive pieces.  They will turn their sentences into paragraphs and learn how to edit their work and give constructive feedback to others.

In math, we will master our addition and subtraction facts.  Students will expand upon that knowledge by adding and subtracting 2-digit and 3-digit numbers.  We will learn more about money, measurement and time. Science will come alive as we study magnetism, seasonal cycles and simple machines.

We will take field trips to learn about the life cycle of bees and the water cycle. In social studies, students will learn about Ancient Greece, westward expansion, the civil war and immigration.

We love to balance fun and hard work, and we are excited to share our year with you!
